Even though all
international students share the same sense of need to
meet and get along with others in their new country,
African students endure many unique experiences of their
own. For whatever unfortunate reasons, The United States
doesn't do very much to teach its youth about African culture
& history. Consequently, students from Africa often
find their American classmates to be rather unknowing when
it comes to appreciating their heritage, style of dress,
etc;
In addition to traditional ISUs, we recommend that
African students form their own separate student unions
for two reasons: On one hand, you'll enjoy the same
benefits that all ISU members do: meeting and networking
with other people who share a similar background and a
common goal. On the other hand, you'll be able to
utilize the organization and its resources to form
cultural events on campus that seek to educate the rest of
the student population about African culture!
